Jesús Daniel Hernández, The Walking Tenor, is an acclaimed Mexican-American tenor recognized for his commanding voice, lyrical sensitivity, and compelling stage presence. Born in Ciudad Juárez, his remarkable journey took him from military service in Iraq with the U.S. Army to the world’s opera stages. His career began in earnest when Plácido Domingo personally invited him to join the prestigious Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at Washington National Opera, where he refined his artistry and expanded his repertoire.
Since then, Hernández has performed leading roles such as Rodolfo (La bohème), Alfredo (La Traviata), Cavaradossi (Tosca), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Turiddu (Cavalleria Rusticana), and Andrea Chénier, among others. His debut album, L’Orologio, showcases his artistry in a collection of timeless arias and songs praised for their elegance and emotional depth.
In 2025, Hernández appeared in Boston with White Snake Projects in To the People Like Us, a groundbreaking contemporary opera blending classical, urban, and Latin influences. As Malakai, he was lauded by The Boston Musical Intelligencer for his “strong and clear tone with a bit of edge” and for imbuing the role with “depth and nuance,” demonstrating his versatility and ability to shine across both traditional and modern repertoires.
Passionate about connecting cultures and audiences through music, Hernández continues to inspire with performances that reflect not only his artistry but also his personal journey of resilience, faith, and dedication.
