Propose an art Exhibition at the zma

General Information

If you are interested in having an exhibition at the Zanesville Museum of Art, please complete the exhibition application through the link below. Exhibition applications are accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year, with annual deadline of December 31st. ZMA staff reviews all exhibition applications annually each January and will respond to all submissions after each review by the end of February. Please note, exhibitions are scheduled 1 to 3 years in advance.

    • Provide transportation of your work to and from ZMA. Upon delivery, all artwork must be dry and in stable condition and ready for installation. Shipped works must be sent in easily reusable packaging with a prepaid return shipping label. All works will be picked up by the artist/lender within 3 days of the close of the exhibition. Works not picked up on time may be subject to storage fees. All shipped work will be shipped back to the artist/lender in original packaging within one week after the close of the exhibition.

    • Complete and sign exhibition agreement no later than 1 year prior to exhibition opening.

    • Complete illustrated checklist no later than 90 days prior to exhibition opening. Please note that ZMA staff makes all artwork selections from the illustrated checklist provided by the artist/lender.

    • Provide high quality images (3,300 pixels tall by 2,550 pixels wide, 300 DPI) for use in promotional and other marketing materials.

    • Artists and lenders are encouraged to give a gallery talk as part of the ZMA Talks museum program.

    • Applicants will be notified of the ZMA’s decision by the end of February each year. Exhibitions are scheduled 1-3 years in advance.

    • Artists and lenders must retain insurance on all works on loan to the ZMA for the duration of the loan.

    • All 2D work (paintings, prints, drawings, and photographs) must be suitably framed and properly fitted with D-rings.

    • ZMA staff makes all final artwork selections for each exhibition.

    • The ZMA reserves the right to use images of any of the works in the exhibition for marketing purposes. This may include superimposed text and cropping where necessary. Additionally, the ZMA will retain said images for educational and promotional purposes.

    • The ZMA will retain a 30% commission on all artwork sold from the exhibition.

    • All artwork is subject to photography by ZMA guests, docents, and volunteers.

    • Opening receptions are only offered to exhibitions held in the ZMA’s Great Gallery.

About the Galleries

Great Gallery

The Great Gallery is located on the museum’s third floor. The gallery offers 120 linear feet of wall space and 2,000 square feet, accommodating both 2D and 3D art work. There are both windows and skylights in this gallery, which can be covered with light-reducing scrims.

Linn Auditorium

The Linn Auditorium is located on the museum’s second floor. The gallery offers 98 linear feet of wall space and 925 square feet, which accommodates only 2D work 36” in height or less. There are no windows in this gallery; however, light from the nearby Atrium windows does flow into the gallery.

R. Donald Cultice Cases

The R. Donald Cultice Cases are located in the Atrium on the museum’s second floor. This space offers 5 cases with 18 linear feet, which accommodates primarily 3D work, but can include a few examples of small 2D work. The cases vary from 16” deep and 24” deep. The maximum height of a work for either set of cases is 36”. There are no shelves in these cases, but the museum uses varying risers to provide dimension. There are numerous windows in the Atrium.

American Art Pottery Gallery

The American Art Pottery Gallery is located on the museum’s first floor. The gallery offers 8 earthquake-proof cases, which accommodates only American Art Pottery. Each case is 56” wide and 20” deep with varying shelf heights. There are only two small windows in this gallery.
