Exhibition Information

The Muskingum County K–12 Student Art Exhibition will be on view at the Zanesville Museum of Art from April 19 to May 9, 2026.

The exhibition opening is Sunday, April 19, 2026 from 1–4 pm.

Awards Ceremonies:

Grades K–5: 2 pm

Grades 6–12: 3 pm

This show is open to all K–12 students in Muskingum County including public school students, private school students, homeschool students, and students who take community or private art lessons.

This year, the ZMA and the City of Zanesville Mayor’s Office will honor student artistic achievement by awarding ten outstanding works of art from elementary, intermediate, middle school, and high school categories the museum’s Avant-Garde Award. Award recipients will receive a fifty-dollar prize presented at the exhibition opening. In addition, one student will be awarded the 2nd annual Youth Ceramics Heritage Award. This award highlights student achievements in ceramics while also recognizing Zanesville’s heritage as the Clay City and the Pottery Capital of the World in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The ZMA is excited to welcome Yan Sun as this year’s guest juror for the 2026 K-12 Student Art Exhibition.

Yan Sun is an accomplished fine artist specializing in oil and acrylic paintings that blend realism with expressive techniques. His work spans landscapes, harbor scenes, portraits, and philosophical ideas, capturing light, atmosphere, and intricate details with remarkable precision.

  • Curator of Louis Palmer Gallery, Muskingum University

  • Signature artist of National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS).

  • Signature artist of Oil Painters of America (OPA).

  • Signature artist of American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA).

  • Artist of the 2022 Governor's Awards for the Arts, Ohio Arts Council

  • Co-founder and artist of Yan Sun Art Museum & Gallery.

Yan Sun is the recipient of The William Oxley Thompson Award for Excellence in Teaching (2001) and The William Rainey Harper Award for Outstanding Scholarship (2008) of Muskingum University.

To recognize the contributions of Yan Sun to the museum and its community, Zanesville Museum of Art named its “Diverse Cultures” Gallery the "Yan Sun Diverse Cultures Gallery."

Serving as a juror for national, state, and regional art exhibitions, Yan Sun has contributed his expertise and insight to supporting the broader art community.
