Southeastern Ohio Watermedia Society's 40th Annual Juried Exhibition
On view September 2, 2017–January 6, 2018
This fall, the Zanesville Museum of Art celebrates the Southeastern Ohio Watermedia Society's (SEOWS) 40th Annual Juried Exhibition. This exhibition highlights the exceptional work artists create using various water-based media, including watercolor, acrylic, ink, tempera, and collage. SEOWS held its first juried exhibition in September 1977 at the ZMA with sixteen original members participating. Today, the society's forty-three members represent Muskingum, Washington, Coshocton, Guernsey, Belmont, Perry, and Monroe counties.
This year, the SEOWS selected Kettering-based artist Sharon Stoltzenberger to judge the works in the exhibition. A graduate of the University of Dayton, Stoltzenberger works with watercolor, acrylics, and mixed media to depict landscapes and wildlife. Awards were presented during the opening on September 2 by the juror for merit, honorable mention, and a cash prize for best in show. "The cash prize does provide an amazing incentive; the ultimate goal is to promote the relationship within the artist community through inspiration and teaching," stated SEOWS president Cynthia Dixon.
After forty years, SEOWS continues to host workshops, exhibitions, and other special events as they broaden their appreciation for waterbased media. The juried exhibition is the pinnacle of their efforts throughout the year.
